KAROL ŻURAWSKI
The task of the competition was to design a cross commemorating the visit of John Paul II on the Piłsudskiego square.
But the cross was already there, on the pavement of the square.
It was created by thousands of people putting candles on the ground after the pope had passed away.
The wax of the candles sunken in the concrete and permanently marked the cross.
There was no need to design a new one, just to expose the one that was already there.
